James Mulvey Inn $749,900

The James Mulvey Inn was named after the builder of the home, James Mulvey. Mulvey was an English immigrant of Irish descent who came to this country in the decade of the 1850's when the population of the state of Minnesota would go from 7,000 non-native people to 150,000 in population. Transportation in middle American in those days would have been extremely difficult, so Mulvey joined a host of other immigrants in establishing a new life in Minnesota. Stillwater was strategically placed at the end of several riverways and became the capital of the Minnesota territory.

The James Mulvey Inn was established in 1991, and expertly run by Jill and Truett Lawson for 15 years. The current innkeepers, Teary O'Harra and Lee Sather, committed themselves to carry on many of the traditions that are trademarks of this fine inn including lovingly caring for the many guests, grounds and home. Teary and Lee continually challenge themselves to provide noreworthy culinary experiences and creating a relaxing and elegant environment for the comfort and enjoyment of all who stay.

The James Mulvey Inn is truly an enchanting place. Built in 1878 by lumberman James A. Mulvey; the Italianate residence graces the most visited historic rivertown in the upper midwest. Exclusively for you are the grand parlor, formal dining room & Victorian sunporch and seven fabulously decorated guest rooms filled with art and antiques.
The Edna Room: This room is named for the eldest Mulvey daughter. Light streems from a cranberry glass lamp over the stately antique kin-size brass bed. Soft green walls echo the beautiful grounds that can be enjoyed from the serenade balcony. The Miranda Room: Miranda was the lady of the house while the Mulvey family lived here. Now her room is graced by a beautiful iron Victorian bed, oak desk and large whirlpool tub! Inlaid floors of oak, walnut and maple lead your eye toward a stunning Victorian fireplace of faux marble across from the double whirlpool tub.
Walters Room: Named for one of Miranda and James' sons, this mail floor room with its nine-foot oak windows is decorated with jewel tones and rich navy silk fabrics that create a feeling of elegance. A beautiful Victorian oak wrap-around bed gives this room its turn of the century boudoir feel. Guests enjoy the beautiful grounds viewed from the serenade balcony often referred to as the "kissing balcony".
The Bordeaux Suite is one of the two exclusive suites located in the Carriage House. It's unique design and features make this a popular choice of travelers.
