Established in 1983, Mrs. B's Inn was the first inn in Lanesboro and has been featured in most major publications in the US. Together with its famous restaurant this is probably one of the best deals for an inn in the country. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and it's claim to fame is it was the office of Dr David 'White Beaver' Powell, the town's doctor in the 1880's and business partner of Buffalo Bill Cody, who, together with Doc Powell, formed his famous wild west show here and did his first performance right here in Lanesboro. The building, which had been a furniture store and mortuary for over 100 years was purchased in 1980 and opened for business in 1983 by a local couple. After a complete gutting and reconstruction into a 10 room inn, (so all modern systems to commercial grade) the inn and restaurant quickly became a focal point for the town and southern Minnesota. Nancy had a vision for the town and was instrumental in the development of the 60 mile paved bike trail which is centered in Lanesboro and has become one of the major attractions to the town calling thousands of visitors to Lanesboro every year from a 3 million population base located within a 2 1/2 hour drive or less. The town also sports one of the finest new performing arts theaters in the Midwest and plays to a full house most nights. Shops, galleries and a choice of restaurants are available to the visitor and the Root River which is located right in our backyard, boasts some of the best trout fishing in the state. The inn located above the flood plain, isn't required to have flood insurance which is a great advantage. When we purchased the inn, it was not in the best physical condition so we completely remodeled it over a 3 year time span, raised rates to justify growth and refurnished with quality products. We did not open the restaurant as that is not where our skills lie but the business is here and all you have is to open the door and go to work. Not only will you over double your income (and I have the books to prove it) but you can operate year around should you so choose as the inn is the only place in town that offers both lodging and dining and would be the only quality restaurant open after November until April. Not only did we do an extensive remodel on the inn but we also added a tremendous amount of infrastructure outside in the form of a patio overlooking the river and extensive gardens which traverse to the water's edge.
